Senator after Husband's Job

The "new Evita" Sen Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, who is also the First Lady is vying for her husband's job as President. She has been likened to Jackie Kennedy in the way she dresses and Evita in the way she is involved in politics.

Prices Rising Despite Freeze

After collapsing in 2001-02 the economy has notched up for years of growth of 9 percent. The government responded that price freezing "agreements" with may businesses has caused this but apparently prices are still rising.

Four Straight Years of Growth

The government statistics agency reported Thursday that Argentina has reported its fourth straight year of economic growth. It was also on target for another 5.9 percent growth rate overall.

Five years ago Argentina's economy melted down but today the economy keeps growing and has been continually growing for the last 47 months. They have also renegotiated repayment of $100 billion of public debt.

Steel and Banking Boost Argentina

Argentina Bonds rose and helped raised interest in banking shares. Investors were quite happy with this turn of events. Steelmakers Siderar and Acindar gained 4.04 percent and 2.33 percent as well and together caused the stocks to climb higher on Tuesday.

Argentina Wants Peron

On Tuesday Argentina sent Spain a request to extradite former President Isabel Peron as she is wanted for questioning on the disappearance of Hector Aldo Fagetti Gallego when death squads terrorized the country.

Skeptics don't think good times will last

Although the economy has improved in the last 5 years and the "caroneros" have thinned out the majority of the scavengers do not feel that this improvement in the economy will last and the ones at the bottom of the heap are still scavenging to make a living.
